People associate this with companies trying to sell something, rather than an individual person.</p> <p>If you think about it, everyone has their own brand. It starts with recognizable things, like your face. Then it goes on the internet as your avatar / buddy icon.</p> <p>If you like to share your thoughts through articles, micro posts on Twitter or in big elaborate blog articles, a personal identity or brand that’s easily recognizable, memorable, and cool looking is nice to have.</p> <p>I find that keeping the same photo of yourself as an avatar forever is tough, and as soon as you change it to a new duckface selfie, nobody will recognize you online anymore. Not such a big deal, but what if you had your own logo?</p> <p>Took awhile to work with designers on this concept, but here’s my latest. Throw in an extremely strong and ice piercing wind.</p> <p>What seemed like a horrible day turned out to be perfect. The wind added drama, the chill kept the crowds away. Far from any big city, and a great home base for traveling on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. </p> <p>This hotel is full of small and beautiful details, the staff is incredibly helpful, and the food is some of the best I’ve ever had.</p> <p>This place is super photogenic. It’s sad that they’re closing for 3 years to expand, but it’s going to look incredible when it’s all done.</p> <p>Really happy to be able to photograph the Mondrian cake as well. I was there with a group of awesome photo friends, and we literally went almost exclusively for the cake. $18 entrance fee to the museum + $8 slice of cake. Lately I’ve been finding myself tweaking my existing preset a lot and in the same way. The pattern was a sure sign that it was time to try a new version of the preset I’ve been working on for awhile. </span></p> <p><span>This preset is one that I usually use for bright outdoor portraits, but it definitely isn’t what “makes” this photo. </span><span>Other than the preset, I didn’t actually have to do much because </span><a href="http://melissata.com" target="_blank">Issa</a><span> naturally looks so good! Then exposure, white balance, and such was pretty much set exactly what I wanted from inside the camera in the first place.</span></p> <p><span>I think I may try the new tweaks I made for a few more photos and see if this is sort of my next go-to preset.</span></p> <p><strong><span>About my presets</span></strong></p> <p><span>These “presets” I talk about are just recorded steps of processing that I have always done for every picture in this general light/situation. The steps originated way back when I was using Photoshop CS3 and Camera RAW to process everything, now translated and evolved in Lightroom as my main processing tool.</span></p> <p><span>Instead of always doing the same steps, and to ensure some kind of consistency when editing huge series of photos (like weddings), I found myself needing to create these presets to really streamline and optimiz</span><span class="text_exposed_show">e my processing. My presets are pretty basic, meaning they never are the final edit, but get me really far and help me stay consistent.</span></p> <p><span class="text_exposed_show">This preset, for example, doesn’t touch my exposure and white balance. Things like exposure and white balance I always try to nail in camera before taking the photo. How can something so incredible exist? The Blue Lagoon is predicted to have 1 million visitors visit in a single year in 2015. Sure that sounds touristy, and no matter how hipster you are, you still have to visit this ridiculous place.</p> <p>Hot water from the geothermal plant is pumped in, and the mud, algae, mineral mixture creates this sci-fi worthy blue water. With really fancy, clean, and beautiful facilities, I can’t think of a better way to relax and rejuvenate than at the blue lagoon.</p> <p>I opted for a massage that included floating in the water, getting hailed on, rained on, snowed on, and even almost a sunburn from the bright sun. The Dyrhólaey<span> beach and amazing surroundings is just next to the guesthouse I stayed at in Gardakot (maybe 10 minutes from Vik).</span></p> <p><span>I didn’t have time to head down to the beach to take photos of the amazing natural bridges that I was, in this photo, standing above.</span></p> <p><span>This was a quick stop on the way back to the capitol of Reykjavik after staying 3 nights in the absolutely wonderful <a href="http://www.ggg.is/" target="_blank">Grand Guesthouse Gardakot</a>. I would 100% recommend staying at that guesthouse when exploring the southern areas of Iceland. The hosts are just the nicest people ever! He’s always been so generous and kind, always impressing me by his comfort in the outdoors. Everything he did seemed so wild to me, but not in the sense of uncontrollable rampage, but wild in an observing, grateful, and inspiring manner.</p> <p>When I first met Serena, I could see such a complimentary sense of adventure and kindness in her. They are the type of couple you could hang out with and be friends with for eternity.</p> <p>The beautiful area around Serena’s childhood home in the forest and mountain landscapes of Mountain Ranch were just incredible. By the time we were done shooting the kite, it was already time to head back to the hotel.</p> <p>Alas, the Snæfellsnes peninsula is just so gorgeous, I’d need at least a few years to fully explore the area! I feel like that can go for any region of Iceland. But we did get some fantastic shots for Land Rover from this vantage point.</p> <p>We got a few friendly thumbs up from passing cars that saw us taking these photos! We actually met a few that were also staying at Hótel Búðir that night.</p> <p>Huge props to Karen for flying the kite out of the sunroof so expertly. She made the awesome call of bringing the kite as a prop!</p> <p>This shot is a slightly brighter process of the photo I’ve licensed to Land Rover USA.
